Anthony Shandra, a member of the Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department and a Parsippany sanitation worker, was struck by a car while working on the back of a sanitation truck at 7 a.m. during his shift on Vail Road and Arnold Drive on Tuesday, April 28.

According to the Parsippany Police Department: Shandra, 48, was placing trash into the rear of a stopped garbage truck on Vail Road when a Nissan Altima struck the rear of the truck. He was pinned between the vehicle and the garbage truck, crushing his legs. First responders rendered life-saving care to Shandra, and he was rushed to Morristown Medical Center to undergo emergency surgery for severe injuries to his lower extremities. Unfortunately, doctors were not able to save his one leg as it ultimately had to be amputated.  This years outing will be raising funds for Anthony and to help with his transition moving forward.
